Wide margins, with the exception of the top right margin that was cut short because of publishing it as a fold out map. Folds as issued. A repaired tear in the left side of the map a few cm into the image. Other side of the paper is blank.  Copper engraved map that shows the most southern tip of Patagonia in the most southern part of South-America. Strait Le Maire is the last possibility to avoid having to round Cape Horn. It is the strait between Staten Island and Tierra del Fuego. It was discovered in 1616 by the Dutch explorers Jacob le Maire and Willem Cornelisz Schouten when they were looking for alternative routes to the Indies.  Jacques Nicolas Bellin was the most important French hydrographer of the 18th century. He published his beautiful maps in several important works like the Sea-atlas 'Hydrographique Français' (1756-65) and the atlas to accompany Prévost d' Exile's ' Histoire. des Voyages', (1738-75). This map comes from the 1754 edition of the Atlas Maritime.
